Best Day Ever

So they say the first year of living with someone is the hardest and its definitely true, even if there's no one that you could do it with better. It's hard because you're learning so much about the other person, things you never knew about them before. Things that you never knew really mattered like if they put their dirty socks in the laundry bin or if they leave them littered around the house! And then they're dealing with your quirks and eccentricities. They think things you do are bizarre, things you've never thought twice about in your life and assumed were things everyone did but it turns out its only you! It's a learning experience, to say the least.

The biggest thing I've learned about Jake this past year is he goes on these highs. Like, he'll get super into something like skateboarding, fishing, or kayaking, or something like that and he'll invest a lot of his time and money in it and then he'll just get tired of it and dump it for another several months. I never know when the next high is going to come or what it is. (Right now its Nerf guns which totally caught me off guard but I'll get to that later). The only thing that stays constant is video games. He doesn't like to go out of the house, ever, except when its something he wants to do during a time when he's on a high from it. Like, if I want to go fishing and he's not super into it at that time, he's like, finnnnneeeeee, let's do it, ugh.

At first it bothered me because it felt like we only did stuff when he wanted to during times when he became obsessed with them. He says he gets it from his dad because his dad doesn't ever like to go out and he likes to spend most of his free time at home alone watching Fox news. Jake explained he's like that but instead of Fox news its video games. We don't spend a lot of time together during these times.

Currently, Jake's on a skiing high meaning we get to spend a lot of time together driving to McCall and hitting the slopes. Because of this high we've gotten closer to each other and have started skating together again too meaning Jake's on a skateboarding high. And because we've had so much fun together doing those things, he wants to do even more things together.

And so yesterday we tried out this new Hawaiian place which a friend with terrible taste told us (why did we listen to him?) had the best Hawaiian food ever (it kind of sucked!) But it was still fun nonetheless. Here's a picture from their Spam wall.

Afterwards we went to this Chevron which was the best gas station ever. It seriously had about a dozen different types of hot dogs and fried cheese sticks to try, bottles of pop on sale for 2 for a dollar, the biggest selection of candy we've seen EVER, more slushee flavors than 7/11, and everything was decently priced. Prices were similar to grocery stores and candy bars were on sale for 2 for a dollar which is a good price anywhere considering most are 80 cents a piece now! (I mean, seriously, remember when they were normally priced at 50 cents?).

We went to an afternoon showing of the Hunger Games. I've gotten both of us excited for the movie because I recently read the books and we've talked about them on the way up to McCall. When we got to the theatre, there were these ridiculous lines going out from the sides of the building for the movie. It was the first time we've ever had to line up for a movie anywhere, it was a little ridiculous. But it was worth it, the movie was pretty sweet.

We had to stop by Target on the way home. Afterwards we were going to go home to skate but Jake wanted to stop by the Nerf gun aisle really fast. He's gotten super into Nerf guns lately (he's currently watching YouTube videos as I type) and he decided to buy guns so we can have Nerf gun wars with each other. Apparently, you can do all these alterations to make shoot really far and stuff. Instead of going home, we checked out a few more stores to see what they had and wound up at Toys R Us. There, I found these dolls that reminded me of ones I had when I was younger. Like Popples, or whatever they are called, they kind of turn into cupcakes when you alter their dresses and little bodies. Lame versions of Transformers, if you will.

Jake asked me if I wanted one since they were so nostalgic to me and I thought it was dumb to have a doll but they had these little packs where you could get a surprise "pet" of the cupcake girls, cookie cutter, and recipe card, so we got one of those.  I really wanted the cow and so we felt the packages trying to guess which shape would be the cow.

And surprise, surprise we found it! Haha. We bought a couple but I'm just going to keep the cow.

Jake ended up ordering Nerf guns online (he sprung for a discontinued one on eBay that's apparently the best Nerf gun the company has ever made). Want to know how much he got them for? 100. I'm still having a heart attack but it's okay I guess. Hahaha.

I know days like these where we spend a lot of time together goofing around and having fun aren't the norm. They're probably only happening because Jake is bored of his video games right now. And I could pout and whine and wish we spent more time together but he wouldn't be happy if we did and I wouldn't be happy either because he'd be doing it out of some feeling of obligation. I couldn't have fun unless he was having fun too. I kind of have to chase his highs whenever he's super into something but its worth it, he's worth it.
