Instagram 7 (Kira Update)

We were apart from Kira for the first time since we got her (April 29th, I think?) when we went to Salt Lake. That night, she sat in the living room and howled. Apparently the only way my parents got her to stop was by "poking her with a stick".
  • She can now shake with either paw on command.
  • She becomes aggressive when she sees other dogs on leashes, not so much if they are not on leashes. We were walking on the Greenbelt this one time and passed a man with his golden retriever off-leash. It ran up to her and she sniffed it, other than that, she could have cared less. About twenty minutes later, we walked past a group of people with their dog on a leash and she went hysterical. She also does this at the dog park if someone is coming out as we are coming in on leash, but she is calm, excited, but not hysterical, if they are off leash.
  • She only walks up and down the stairs with permission or when following us. My bedroom is connected to the rest of the house by a set of stairs. If Jake and I are watching TV and she wants to go downstairs, she will stand at the top of the staircase and start whining. Once we say, "Go ahead," or "Its okay, Kira" she'll walk down herself and we will not see her until she comes back up. She isn't whining to go outdoors or for food or water or anything, but just for permission to go down.
  • She is disinterested in Frasier when she sees him outside. She seems to understand he belongs on our property. When they first met, Frasier was alarmed but he didn't run away. Kira started to sniff him profusely (as she does everything. She sniffs more aggressively than any other dog we've ever seen). Frasier started to hiss at her. Eventually this led to warning scratches and more barking. Kira learned to stop sniffing Kira and Frasier behaved. They learned to tolerate each other and sometimes look at each other as they pass. We brought Frasier in the house the other day. It has been months since she has seen him in the house and she started barking and advancing towards him (on leash, we had just gotten back from a walk). Jake held her back and I put Frasier in the bathtub where he likes to drink water from (at home point in his cat dementia he'd only drink from the tub. We let him because we felt bad for him). We took Kira outside where she likes to lay down after a walk. We were changing her food dish when she pushed the doors open to go inside (she can get in through closed doors when they aren't locked, they do not take much force to push open). I ran after her to find her standing in the bathroom door wagging her tail watching Frasier drink water. We think it might have amused her. (She hates the bathtub herself and rarely enters the bathroom because of which).
  • She goes ballistic when she sees other cats in the neighborhood.
Frasier is an outside cat and for the most part, always has been. The man that rents the studio attached to our house receives Medicaid for having a mental disability. One of the reasons he was drawn to our house was Frasier. He has always wanted a cat. He said he'd move in if he could watch over him. My mom was happy with this arrangement because she hates Frasier and Medicaid checks would mean rent would be on time every month.

About a couple months ago he told Jake he renamed Frasier. "I renamed him Jake," he proudly exclaimed. Hahahahahahahaha. Nice.
